Chocolate Coffee Beans

We were first introducted to Chocolate Coffee Beans at a small coffee shop in the late 90's. We thought , wow, Instant Caffine and Instant Sweet Tooth taken care of in one bean!

My friend was so amazed that he thought it would be an instant rush, and possible heart attack from straight caffine and sugar - LOL.

Since the late 90's , and probably before that, Chocolate coffee beans have been big sellers for many different occasions, holidays and special events. I even saw them handed out as favors at a wedding.

So what exactly are Chocolate coffee beans?

They are considered a confection that is made from the coating of a roasted coffee bean (you can't just pick coffee beans and slap chocolate on them) and then your choice of chocolate. It can be a dark chocolate , milk chocolate or white chocolate works.

Mostly they come in dark chocolate, from what we can gather, because dark chocolate seems to be the healhier choice.

Most of these covered beans are just sweet enough to stop a craving, and the bitterness of the bean itself  can overtake the non-coffee drinker because its such a flavorful jolt to the tastebuds.

We found, like most  chocolate products, these covered coffee beans are very rich in fat. If you need to stay off fat, you need to stay away from chocolate coffee beans. But, with that said, the main ingredient is coffee bean, so they are very high in caffine milligrams.

The good part of this combination is they  contain high levels of antioxidants and certain vitamins, so as with all things in life, when done in moderation, they can be beneficial to your health. .

About bit about coffee beans

The key to coffee beans is the freshness. This is very critical and probably the most overlooked factor.  To me, having old stale coffee beans is like reheating coffee that was made earlier in the day, it just don't work.

So, our suggestion is to check the "roasting dates" when you are in the market for coffee beans.  Try to find a local roaster who can verify the roasting date.

If you are in a store just shopping retail, always try and look  to see that the retailer is busy and that their stock turns over rapidly.  Especially in "gourmet" shops. You've probably seen the large open containers of coffee beans with thirty pounds of coffee just sitting around, most likely these coffee beans are stale. Always as for the roasting date and ask the store how long the coffee beans been sitting in the container.

If your shopping around, you can find a good variety of chocolate coffee beans at this website.

Remember, when it comes too many food groups, fresher is better, and coffee coffee beans are no different.
